About Levothyroxine

About levothyroxine

Levothyroxine doses need to be carefully monitored with a regular blood test during the treatment to make sure doctors are giving you the correct dose of Levothyroxine.

The most common side effects of levothyroxine are caused by taking a bigger dose than you need. Your doctor can lower your dose to help reduce any side effects.

Once your hormone levels are stable and your symptoms are under control, your levels will usually be checked once a year.

If you have not booked your once-a-year blood test please call your surgery to book an appointment for a blood test.

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you are not able to have the blood test for any reason.

If you have not had a blood test in the next 4 weeks, we will consider reducing your medication to 2 weekly supplies.

Once you have the blood test the medication supply can be increased.

However, if you are not happy with 2 weekly supplies of medication please speak to a pharmacist or doctor.
