Ordering repeat prescriptions
The easiest ways to order repeat prescriptions are:
· using your NHS account (through the NHS website or in the NHS App)
These accounts show you all your repeat medicine and dosage and you can choose the ones you need.
You can also:
· fill out a repeat prescriptions request form located at reception
· bring the paper form to the surgery, Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 6.30pm
· via email - kmicb.prescription.cityway@nhs.net
We do not accept requests over the phone.
Hospital Prescriptions
In order to maintain safe prescribing systems for all of our patients, this practice is unable to issue a prescription for any new medication until we receive hospital discharge or outpatient letter directly from the clinician or department initiating the medication following your appointment.
Please note that any hospital outpatient prescriptions (white) must be taken to the hospital pharmacy within the hospital. The CCG policy does not allow this surgery to issue a replacement (green) prescription against a hospital outpatient prescription.
If patients take these forms to Community Pharmacies the request will be treated as a Private Prescription and the patient will have to pay for the treatment.
Collecting your prescription
You can usually collect your prescription from the pharmacy 3 working days after you have ordered it.
You will need to choose a pharmacy to collect your prescription from. We call this nominating a pharmacy.
You can change your nominated pharmacy at any time:
· on the app or website where you order repeat prescriptions
· at your GP practice
· at any pharmacy that accepts repeat prescriptions
Questions about your prescription
If you have questions about your medicine, your local pharmacists can answer these. They can also answer questions on medicines you can buy without a prescription.
The NHS website has information on how your medicine works, how and when to take it, possible side effects and answers to your common questions.
· Go to Medicines A to Z (nhs.uk)
If you would like to speak to someone at the GP surgery about your prescription:
· phone our prescription team on 01634 843351 opt 4
Medication reviews
If you have a repeat prescription, we may ask you to come in for a regular review. We will be in touch when you need to come in for a review.

What to do with old medicines
Take it to the pharmacy you got it from or bring it in to the surgery. Do not put it in your household bin or flush it down the toilet.
About pharmacists
As qualified healthcare professionals, pharmacists can offer advice on minor illnesses such as:
· coughs
· colds
· sore throats
· tummy trouble
· aches and pains
They can also advise on medicine that you can buy without a prescription.
· Find a pharmacy (nhs.uk)
Many pharmacies are open until late and at weekends. You do not need an appointment.
Most pharmacies have a private consultation room where you can discuss issues with pharmacy staff without being overheard.
Pharmacy First
As part of the new pharmacy first scheme introduced by the UK Government in 2024 pharmacies are now able to prescribe medication for certain illnesses without you seeing a GP or make an appointment.
Conditions they can offer prescription medicine for are:
- impetigo (aged 1 year and over)
- infected insect bites (aged 1 year and over)
- earache (aged 1 to 17 years)
- sore throat (aged 5 years and over)
- sinusitis (aged 12 years and over)
- urinary tract infections (UTIs) (women aged 16 to 64 years)
- shingles (aged 18 years and over)
If you are not within these age ranges, a pharmacist can still offer advice and support decisions about self care treatment with over the counter medicines, but you may need to see a GP for treatment.
If you go to a pharmacy with one of these conditions, the pharmacist will offer you advice, treatment or refer you to a GP or other health professional if needed. They will also update your GP health record, but your information will not be shared with anyone else.
Most pharmacies can provide prescription medicine for these conditions but contact them before visiting to check.
Please Note: It is practice policy that we can not prescribe any medication to postpone menstrual cycles.
